Discover one of Lapland’s most unique attractions, an amethyst mine high in the fells, surrounded by vast Arctic landscapes. Your day begins with pickup from your accommodation in Saariselkä, Ivalo or Sodankylä. Sit back and enjoy the private journey through Lapland’s winter landscapes as we make our way towards the mine. From the foot of the fell, the Amethyst Pendolino snow vehicle takes you up to the mine, with beautiful views opening across the surrounding fells and forests along the way. At the top, you’ll step inside a warm wooden hut and hear the story of Lapland’s amethyst, how it was formed more than two billion years ago and how it is still mined here today. Then it’s time to search for your own piece of Lapland. Everyone gets the chance to dig for an amethyst and take one found gemstone home as a personal souvenir. After the Amethyst Mine experience, we’ll stop for lunch before beginning the private journey back to your accommodation. Estimated total duration: around 8 hours from Ivalo, 7 hours from Saariselkä and 4–5 hours from Sodankylä.
