Experience traditional ice fishing in the peace of Lake Inari, with only your own group and a professional guide. The day starts with pickup from your accommodation in Saariselkä, Ivalo or Inari. We travel to Lake Inari, which is Finland’s third-largest lake and offers some of the best fishing in Lapland. Its vast frozen landscape and deep connection to local people make it a special place to experience one of Lapland’s oldest winter traditions. No previous experience is needed: your guide will show you how to drill a hole in the ice, use the fishing equipment and try different techniques for catching fish. Perch and whitefish are among the more common catches, and both are excellent eating fish. If luck is on your side, you may hook one of Lake Inari’s more prized species, such as Arctic char, brown trout or grayling. Catching fish cannot be guaranteed, but any catch that can legally be kept can be cooked fresh over the campfire. During the activity, we enjoy hot drinks and a light lunch by the fire. Because the experience is completely private, there are no strangers to wait for and no large-group schedule to follow. Your group decides how to spend the time: fishing, relaxing around the fire or simply enjoying the peace of the frozen lake. The experience is listed as four hours, but the total duration, including transfers, can be adjusted between three and six hours according to your group’s preference on the day. If the fish are biting and you want to stay longer, we can stay. If you are ready to return earlier, we can head back. The starting time can also be arranged between 09:00 and 11:00.
